When Excel formats a date, it uses one of several default formats, the most common is the system short date (yy). Therefore when a user types a 4-digit year (yyyy) date in Excel, it may be displayed in a 2-digit year (yy) format. This tweak changes to default the 4-digit format.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value named "EnableFourDigitYearDisplay" and set it to equal "1" to enable 4-digit dates.

Restart Excel for the change to take effect.

Settings:

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Office\9.0\Excel\Options]
Name: EnableFourDigitYearDisplay
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)
